State Highway 503 near 2nd Street

West Alexandria, OhioOct 30, 20040 Comments

I was stopped and ticketed for supposedly going 40 in a 25 zone– the officer informed me (actually screamed in my face) that the entire village of West Alexandria has a speed limit of 25 MPH. He said he clocked me going 40 at 2nd & Main Street (which is 503), which was not possible, being that I was driving on 2nd Street, not Main, and there is a STOP SIGN there. I did not run the stop sign, thus it was an impossibility for me to be going 40 even in the nearby vicinity since I was slowing down in preparation to stop, and acceleration on my vehicle is relatively poor; there is another stop sign within the next block afterward. Another odd thing was that he did not stop me there, but seemed to "appear out of nowhere" several blocks later to pull me over (he did not follow me). Officer was EXTREMELY rude even though I was polite, and said an offensive comment about my town having a State Reformatory in it (as if I was an escaped convict). This same officer wrote the year as "2002" on my ticket, even though I was stopped on March of 2004. I have heard from locals that the entire town is a speed trap, so watch your speed unless you want to donate $105 to Preble County Ohio. Being pretty or whatever does not get you out of a ticket, so don’t depend on that if you think it would help (it doesn’t). I am an out-of-stater, and the court does not allow trial by declaration/affadavit, so I ended up paying the insane fine for something I did not do to avoid driving all the way back there just to fight a speeding ticket.
