Big Cabin, Oklahoma Speed Traps
Northbound past overpass by truck stop
When going north on 69 you go over an overpass before you get to the truck stop and turnpike gates. There is a speed limit sign at the top of the overpass that says the speed changes from 55 mph down to 45 mph. There WILL be a Big Cabin police car waiting at the bottom to write yet another ticket. It’s like shooting fish in a barrel.
There used to be big red “SPEED TRAP AHEAD” signs warning of this speed trap. It is still going on so I wonder what happened to those signs.

US 69 and I-44
Traveling from TX to I-44. The speed limits along this road change from 65 to 45 frequently. At approximately 1:30 am, I was approaching I-44 and did not see the speed limit change to 45. I was surprised because it’s in the middle of nowhere. No one was on the road. My ticket cost $145.00. I have vowed to avoid Oklahoma in the future. I don’t care if it takes me longer, OK will lose more than $145.00 from me. I won’t spend a dime in that state and they can thank the Big Cabin police department.
State Highway 69 near 44 Turnpike
The love to stop commercial traffic but are not afraid to bully the average traveler. This is a very strict and no tolerance stretch of road. Follow the speed limits a.s.a.p. and you might get out lucky.
State Highway 69
Out-of-staters: Beware of the trap in this area. As soon as you come off of the turnpike, the speed limit is 45. I would stay 45 the entire time, because as soon as you come off of the turnpike and go south on hwy 69, it slowly climbs up to 60 again for a few hundred feet, then drops down, again. When I exited the turnpike, I had no way to know the speed limit for this stretch of highway in the middle of nowhere. I stayed at 50-55 just to be safe. And, to my surprise blue lights start flashing over the hill. Big Cabin said he clocked me at "60".
