El Reno, Oklahoma Speed Traps
15 miles West on I-40 at bridge construction site, both ways
Signs warn or construction, drive with caution, etc. Then you see “Slower Vehicles Keep Right” sign. Then “Merge Now – State Law” sign, followed by “No Passing”, then the Merge Lane tapers off a long ways down the road. When Patrol Cars are setting behind the barrels, motorist form a conga line all the way back behind the merge now signs, vehicles follow too closely to let anyone in the passing lane in, if you head for an opening beyond the Merge Now sign, you get a $211.50 ‘Merging after the Merge Now Sign” ticket. If the Patrol Vehicles aren’t hiding there, traffic goes through the construction zone more efficiently and merging spots aren’t compromised. Very dangerous situation just to collect money from motorists. Not too bright. If it’s illegal to pass in a merge zone, then why would slower vehicles have to keep right??
At the I-40 East bound Construction
Once you get to the start of the I-40 East bound Construction site there is a El Reno city policeman on a motorcycle sitting behind the barriers (concrete slabs) with his radar gun.
Foreman Bridge
They will sit on the west side of the bridge in a field by some trees usually and get almost any car that exceeds 35mph. The speed limit is 30mph.
Interstate 40 near Mile Marker 132
The cops will hide under the overpasses behind the yellow barrels. They will stop you for doing 3 mile an hour over just so they can search your car. Watch out for these guys.
Highway 81 north bound
When you are going north bound just about 5 miles south of El Reno. The speed limit drops from 65 to 55. Most people don’t notice change until right before the bridge. They will sit on the other side of the bridge radaring.
