My family, we were driving to Dallas in two different vehicles. We had to drive thru Kiowa. The first vehicle was pulled over according to the officer was speeding 11-14 mph over the speed limit. Well according to the officer both vehicles were speeding. We both got tks. I will never drive thru the lonely town. They obtained all their revenue thru the tks they give people.

I’m a college student, studying at Univ of Tulsa. As far as I know, basically, all my friends at TU have at least one ticket from Kiowa and its nearby towns. They have complained about this trap thousand times.
Below is what I have been thru.
Unfortunately, I got a speeding ticket at Kiowa several days ago for driving 59mph in a 40mph zone. I’m 100% sure I didn’t exceed 55mph, but I still got a 59mph ticket. The officier was very rude when he stopped me. I told him that was my first ticket ever, hoping to get a warning. He just throw me a ticket, which is $190+$100(clear record charge)+$30, and said "everyone gets his first ticket. Even if I don’t stop you here, someone will stop you in the next town".
I paid my fine. It’s weird that my payment did NOT go to Oklahoma police dept or some government site. My credit card shows my money went to a Real Estate Attorneys located in Georgia! Here is the address: 145 Towne Lake Pkwy, Woodstock, GA 30188. What a hell!

Next time I go to Texas, I will drive thru OKC to avoid these corrupt police!

Speed reduces four times in very short distance. Signs are very difficult to see from left lane. You will be stopped after you are out of the speed zone you are ticketed for. On Monday November 30, 2015 I was ticketed for going 50 in a 40. I never saw the 40 mph sign. When I questioned the young man who said he had clocked by speed, he said it had occurred four miles back. I am sitting on the side of Hwy 69 within spitting distance of a 70 mph sign. I had been driving in the left lane to pass several trucks in the right lane. I pulled in front of the patrol car and had gone only about 50 yards when he turned on his lights. I asked him how he had clocked me if he was ahead of me. He would not answer the question. The ticket says I owe the city of Kiowa $135.00. I live in Deleon, Texas and have never driven through Kiowa before and I would drive 100 mile out of the way to never go though there again. Population is well under 700, but the 2014 audited city’s financial’s say fine revenue exceeds $875K. They have a police force of six as well a a K-9 unit. This is a trap of the worst sort.

I was traveling to Dallas from Northwest Arkansas via Oklahoma Hwy 69. It is an annoying highway because the speed limit changes about every 2 to 3 miles it seems.
I was pulled over in Kiowa for going 55 in a 40. I told the officer that I was resetting my cruise control everytime I saw a new speed limit sign and I did not see a 40 MPH sign. He wrote me a ticket for 50 in a 40 (so what was it 50 or 55).
On my way back from Dallas I decided to look for the 40 MPG sign. I turned around and got in the left lane as I was previously, there was a good bit of traffic in the right hand lane – I never saw the sign. So I turned around and looked for it again. didn’t see the sign. The 3rd time, I got in the right hand lane and finally saw the sign. It is about waist tall – I’ve never seen such a short sign. One cannot see it if driving in the left lane with traffic on the right side.
I callled the number on my citation – spoke with the Court Clerk of Kiowa and she told me that Kiowa doesn’t have any control over the height of the signs and tried to get me to call the State and complain. I suggested that perhaps the city of Kiowa should call the State and request taller poles for the sign so that folks from out of town who couldn’t see the sign if driving in the left lane wouldn’t be ticketed. The paperwork that was given to me with my citation, states that payment must be made by the court date or another $200 will be added to your fine – but there is no court date listed on the citation or the additional paperwork! The court clerk was aware of the problem with the short sign that is not visable – yet they continue to write speeding tickets. Speed trap for sure!

Officer pulled me over for doing 43/40, non functioning signal lamp that worked upon visual inspection, and for drifting in the lane. After checking license and insurance, seeing that I was ‘clean’ the officer admitted that he was looking for drunk drivers. no citation was issued. Didn’t hurt that I mentioned I was a member of the media.
