Middle of town

Kiowa is a speed trap and the city knows it. What they don’t tell you is most of the traffic on the highway is trucks and they all have cb radio’s and know when the speed trap is set up. Also their are very few accidents in town most are trucks driving 80 mph before they get the city limit’s. Most tickets are written to cars who don’t know it is a speed trap.

Driving from Northwest Arkansas to Dallas, TX means an extended roadtrip through Oklahoma. Not that we aren’t already pleased to be driving through the beautiful landscape and the luxuriously smooth roads, but once you pass McAlester, you have to reduce your speed through every little town you go through. Pretty standard, signs tell you to slow from 70-65-55-40, and most long distance travelers hit coast and slow down through town. Don’t take these signs for granted though. I was doing a standard slow down, when I noticed a cop car sitting DIRECTLY behind a 40mph sign. I looked at my speedometer and saw I was still going 50 from the previous sign, so even if I had slammed on the breaks I wouldn’t have gotten down to 40 immediately. Two black chargers came racing after me and pulled me over. The officer proceeded to tell me I was driving 55 in a 40, and I said I couldn’t believe that, I knew I was going 50 and started to slow down when I saw the sign. He looked suspiciously through my car with his flashlight, went back to his car, told his buddy, I suppose, that I wasn’t a threat, and his buddy raced off into the distance to get another victim. The officer returned and put 50 in a 40 on the ticket “since I admitted to speeding”, which tells me he had no radar, he was just picking on my Arkansas tags as an out of state driver. Watch your speed here, out of towners, they love to steal money from out of state drivers!!!

Kiowa, OK driving S on Hwy 69

I had stopped for gas in the town. It was 1:30 in the morning. I was traveling with my family for Christmas to Texas from Missouri. After leaving the convenience store and out of town, I thought. I was pulled over by what looked like a black SUV. The officer stated I was going 62 in a 40 mph zone. I asked if he would give me a warning and he responded that he had 3 options – take me to jail for reckless driving, suspend my license maybe permanently, or write me the ticket. I said “Merry Christmas” and accepted the ticket. This is definitely a racket and needs to be addressed by the state officials.

Highway 69

What a complete scam! Non-visible speed limit signs, only 40 MPH zone on Hwy 69 in state that I am aware of (certainly for more than 150 miles). Clearly this is not about speed or safety, but revenue for these thieves. If they really wanted to provide a safe speed environment place flashing lights and/or red flags on speed limit signs, wherever they may be posted. This place is really building up some bad Karma. Buffoon officers, sham process, all about taking money from out of state drivers.

I’m another one that got caught by the black charger. The speed limit rapidly increases 40-70, he pulled me over while I was literally staring at the 70mph sign for going 67. Cited me for going 20 over – $177 + $25 (credit processing)+ $100 for their form of "deferred adjudication." When I talked to the court about arguing the clerk was very nice but pretty much told me that I wouldn’t have a chance, the judge won’t talk to anyone, won’t read a note before the court date, and I couldn’t appear in court.
