Newcastle, Oklahoma Speed Traps
Hwy 62, just south of I-44
Patrolman frequently pulls over lone drivers for "speeding" when they are not. A favorite pull-over spot is the Phillips 66 station at the north edge of town. I was pulled over for supposedly going "65 in a 55" when I was looking for a gas station on a dark highway. In reality, there WAS no 55 mph sign (I went looking for it), but there was a 45 mph zone on the edge of an unlighted field in a dark stretch of road. There was also a 35 mph sign across the street from the gas station, almost hidden from view by a tree. For this entire stretch of road, I was driving no more than 30 mph while searching for a station.
Hwy 9 west from I-35 and Hwy 62 through downtown Newcastle
Speed is reduced from Interstate speed to 45 MPH just west of I-35 getting on Hwy 9 west. This is a prime location! Also Hwy 62 through Newcastle is cruised throughout the day & night. If the speed is reduced from 50 mph to 40 and then to 35, do not exceed or get a ticket. The Newcastle police have "no mercy" on writing you up..
