Rock Island, Oklahoma Speed Traps
Hiway 112 Rock Island Ok.
Between Backbone Mtn. and James fork creek on Hwy 112 between Pocola and Cameron. Rock Island is using state Hwy Property to pay for a non trained police force. More than 50% of this tiny town comes from tickets on this state Hwy.
On HWY 112 near James Fork Creek
Brand new police department (Oct. 2010) in a small community of probably less than 500 people. You can’t really see the town from this highway (just a convenience store at the 112/120 junction) so it does not appear to be connected to any town. Police actually leave their real "city" area and sit on the side of this highway at various places to collect tickets from anyone without any, or very little, tolerance. City limit signs are posted at the South end near the James Fork river bridge but not at the North end of their city limits where it joins with Pocola. Daytime weekdays and Friday nights are the most active time periods.
