Corvallis, OregonSep 07, 20070 Comments

Approaching Corvallis from the South on State Hwy 99 (also South 3rd Street). You will find a ‘driver education movie’ waiting for you. The speed limit goes from 55 – 50 – 35 – 20 – 35 – 25. There is a School Zone, School Buses and lots of Cross Walks. The Scool Buses stop on the Hwy, and even though it is 4 lanes with a center turn and medians, you must stop for them. This is all in the space of about 1 1/2 miles. Very Heavily enforced, esp. School Hours, 7am – 4pm.

State Highway 34 near 34/20 Bypass

Corvallis, OregonSep 05, 20071 Comments

When coming in to Corvallis on Hyw 34 you pass over the VanBuren Bridge which is one way two lane. The cop will sit at the bottom of this bridge at the intersection of 1st and VanBuren with radar. If you’re first in line over the crest of the bridge he will ticket you. The speed limit before you top the bridge is 25 MPH but is easy to speed as you leave the 45 MPH stretch.

US Highway 20 near NE Granger Avenue

Corvallis, OregonJul 21, 20060 Comments

Benton County Sheriff drive around late at night shooting K band radar. They target opposing traffic and flip their radar on as they are about 100ft from you, so a radar detector is of limited value. If you are speeding, then pull a U turn (or 3 point depending on the road) and chase after you.

They are on highway 20, as well as side streets where speed limits range anywhere from 25 to 55 mph.

3rd/99S Street near Elementary School on East Side

Corvallis, OregonFeb 01, 20050 Comments

As you drive south on 3rd St (aka HWY 99S) leaving Corvallis towards Monroe/Junction City/Eugene, you will enter a school zone (35mph normally, 20mph from 7am-6pm or so) and an Elementary school will be on the left after a lighted intersection/crosswalk. On the right will be a Les Schwab Tire center.

Municipal Police love to hang out in any of the side streets or commercial driveways in that area (mostly on the right (west)). If its during school hours, be sure you are 25mph or below! Not during school hours, you can get away with 40-42mph.
