I-405

Portland, OregonJul 24, 20020 Comments

Off peak traffic hours anywhere on the short stretch of I-405 that passes by downtown. Both North and South-bound, usually at the same time. Multiple motorcycle cops with lidar, posted speed is 50 mph on this 3 lane wide interstate highway! Fortunately, lidar detection is effective in this area when other cars are present, the cops simply trigger everybody, it’s amazing.

NB & SB McLaughlin, between SE Holgate and SE Belmont

There is an new "construction speed" of 35mph, due to construction on the Ross Island Bridge. Of course, there’s normally NO construction on the road, so many people still drive at the old rate: Speed limit was 45 and traffic typically was at 50-55mpn. The police are in cruisers and on motorcycles. I’ve seen 4 or 5 pulled over at a time. Enforcement is heavier SB. This has been going on for a few months now.
