Pringle Road near Battle Creek Road

Salem, OregonNov 13, 20070 Comments

On Pringle Road, where Leslie Middle School is, there are frequently police motorcycles and cruisers hiding at the bottom of a hill in a school zone. They like to hang out in the neighborhood streets across from the school, as well as right in the school parking lot. The regular speed there is suddenly 25mph, and during school hours when the speed limit is 20mph the fines are huge. Also, watch your speed as you approach the 40mph sign heading south toward Battle Creek. If you speed up before you pass the sign, you stand a good chance of getting nailed with a ticket!

Silverton Road near Hawthorne to Hyacinth Streets

Salem, OregonNov 03, 20070 Comments

Most of Hawthorne is 40 mph. One section is 25, but the area is semi-wooded and doesn’t intuitively appear to be a 25 mph area. Heading north, where Hawthorne becomes Hyacinth, officers sit on the curve and point their radar at oncoming drivers who may be driving in excess of 25 mph without violating the basic rule and who would naturally be beginning to slow down at that point due to upcoming congestion anyway.

Hoyt Street near 12th Street

Salem, OregonSep 05, 20071 Comments

Traveling Westbound on Hoyt near ball fields. Radar always used. Speed limit drops to 25 after crossing 12th St much sooner than expected when approaching a school. Limit on Pringle (which becomes Hoyt) is consistently 35.
