Junction Stretch (Northbound Rte 18 & 65) 50mph

Rochester, PennsylvaniaFeb 23, 20111 Comments

Usually the last week every month during rush hour times 9am and 4pm, they stage a full blown trap. One cop sits off to the right hidden on a hill overlooking Northbound traffic (traffic heading toward New Brighton) in the 50mph zone. Meanwhile they have 2-3 patrol cars up the road with emergency lights on already in the 50mph zone before the 40mph zone. They have one lane closed, which causes a complete slow down in traffic. The cop on the hill radios to the other cops on which cars were speeding. When you drive up (at nearly 5mph) they will signal you to pull over if you were tagged or wave you on if you weren’t. Today a friend of mine was one of the people they instructed to pull over. Officer said he was doing 50mph (which the speed limit says 50mph) but he was in a "construction" zone. There are no such signs on that side of the road, just the 50 mph speed limit, however there are construction signs for the southbound side. I suppose they just randomly pull anyone over and make the reasons up.
*** tip for avoiding a ticket – stay in the right lane and this makes it harder for the cop on the hill to see you!

State Route 18 & 65 near Beaver County YMCA

known as Junction Stretch where Pa St Routes 18 and 65 and 51 and 68 split up in Rochester by the giant eagle to where the 4 lane turns into a 2 lane in New Brighton. They will sit along the road parked on the road on the right going towards New Brighton which merges into Routes 18 and 65 just before the train overpass and are always parked somewhere close to the ymca at the signal on the side street, the only one on junction stretch, there waiting for you for speeding and going through a red light, sometimes they sit in the middle in the grass, very aggressive, 60 per cent of the time I go by they have someone pulled over.
