State Route 846

South Pymatuning, PennsylvaniaAug 31, 20060 Comments

There are speed traps all along Route 846 in South Pymatuning Twp, outside of Sharpsville, PA. They recently re-paved the roads and once again, the police VASCAR lines showed up on the asphalt before PennDOT even had a chance to paint the center lines on the road!
Speed limit is 45 mph, but could easily be 55 mph on the long straightaways. Be particularly mindful of cruisers sitting off to the side along Kane Road above the dam, the gas station and car dealership just outside of Sharpsville, and the pull-off parking spots beside the dam.
Enforcement is most common during the morning and late afternoon, when people are commuting to and from work, but cruisers have been seen all hours of daylight attempting to snare speeders.
Even when not parked trying to catch speeders, the area is constantly patrolled by the South Pymatuning PD. One was even seen sitting on the causeway on 846 partially blocking traffic in the northbound lane for no apparent reason!

Route 846 is littered with white lines across the road! The posted speed limit is 45 mph, however you can easily find yourself go 60 mph, as this is mostly a flat straightaway. They especially love to nail people on their way to work in the AM. One favorite spot is to sit back in off to the right by Kane Rd. as you are coming down a hill (headed south towards Sharon). Also, watch the Chestnut Run Beach swim access areas and other dam access entrances. Apparently, this department doesn’t have a lot to do, because I’ve seen them out there all hours of the day.
A few years back, they re-surfaced the road and the police’s white VASCAR lines appeared on the road literally hours after it was re-opened to traffic! In fact, they even had their VASCAR lines on the road before PennDot got a chance to paint the yellow dividing lines!
