Johnston, Rhode Island Speed Traps
US Highway 6 near Interstate 295
If heading eastbound on Hartford Ave/Route 6, there is a ramp for Route 6 East and I-295 South on a downward hill. If you’re going onto the Rt. 6 East/I-295 South ramp, you’re all set, but if heading toward the center of town (remaining on Hartford Ave.) There are usually police officers under the I-295 overpass, and it’s quite easy to be going 50 MPH in this 35 MPH zone. They’re hard to see until you’re right behind them, so be careful when travelling Rt.6/Hartford Ave Eastbound in the I-295 area.
Rte 6 (Hartford Ave) Just before Killingly Street intersection
As with most Johnston speed traps it’s primary purpose is to raise money for the Town: not to keep the public safe. (ever notive that Johnston rarely checks speeders on purely residential roads?) It is set up at the bottom of a steep hill in a 30 mph zone (completely unrealistic considering it’s primarily a commercial road!)
The end of Atwood Ave just before the Greenville Ave intersection
As usual, the trap is at the bottom of a steep hill in a commercial/residential area. Another great money-making spot for the Town while doing little to protect the public.
