Providence, Rhode Island Speed Traps
NORTH MAIN – WHOLE FOODS – TO HOPE ST INTERSECTION AND EAST
Entire City of Providence has become “SCHOOL ZONE SPEED TRAP.
I received 2, $50 tkts for going over 20mph between 7AM AND 4PM on Thursday at 10;30 AM when the kids in this high school SHOULD BE IN SCHOOL. The street doesn’t run in front of the high school— it’s about 1/2 mile from the front door—on the side of the school. Pure and simple MONEY GRAB. I’ve cancelled all future appointments and restaurant reservations in Providence, will now spend our money in other cities like Cranston/East Greenwich/Warwick/South Kingstown/Newport that appreciate our business. Evidently, there are many other spots if you check online
Butler Ave. as it turns into Blackstone Blvd.
There is a school zone next to The Lincoln School with a speed-trap camera. The limit is 25 MPH and it is enforceable from 7 AM TO 4:30 PM. ALL DAY!! Not just during hours when students are likely to be around. Signage is pathetic, so MANY unsuspecting motorists are getting multiple tickets. Beware!
Elmgrove Avenue near Sessions/JCC/Nathan Bishop Middle School
There is a school zone from south of Nathan Bishop through the JCC and all the way to the other school that is north of the JCC. There is a camera on the northbound side of the street just before Nathan Bishop. The limit is 25 MPH and it is enforceable ALL DAY, from 7 AM TO 4:30 PM, not just during hours when students are likely to be around. Signage is pathetic, so MANY unsuspecting motorists are getting multiple tickets. SLOW DOWN. The presence of so many schools with small children makes the speed limit justifiable, but the fact that it is all day catches motorists off guard.
Route 10 east/Dean street
During peak rush hours this is a major back-up area. If you are exiting onto dean street, you may be tempted to zip down the breakdown lane. This is a blind corner pretty much til you round it to the exit to find a state police cruiser sitting there. Using the breaking down lane is not permitted and you will get a ticket. Using the breakdown lane to exit on dean street should be allowed to allieviate congestion but neither the less, you will get ticketed
Undercover Dark Grey Dodge Charger on State Highways
Today I spotted a new undercover police car that pulled someone over with its flashing lights today. Keep an eye out for a dark grey, almost black late model Dodge Charger. Most undercover Chargers stand out in RI because they are a lighter, metallic Gray that almost resembles the gray state Police colors but without the badging. These undercover Chargers can be easily spotted because they also have appendages, special bumpers, and even the "hidden" lights are obvious when you get close. This new dark Grey, almost black Dodge Charger appears completely civilian, and even has the stock Dodge mag-wheels. License plate is WN-909.
Most undercover police cars in RI can be avoided by simply slowing down whenever you see a domestic sedan, approaching them at low speed, and making sure it is not a police car. This can be done because in RI, it has been about 10 years since American cars have sold (as in car vehicle, as opposed to SUV). Most sedans/cars (as opposed to SUV’s) are imports like Camry’s, Accords. Therefore treat any mid-size to large domestic sedan as suspect: their biggest operators are likely local municipalities or the state as no one else tends to buy them.
