State Highway 17

Taking I-95 from Savannah, Ga North towards Charleston, SC. you get off I-95 and take Hwy 17 from there to Charleston, SC. Near Beaufort I-17 is a 4 lane highway with a grassy median in the middle.
I was doing work in Charleston and left at 11pm and was in route to middle Georgia to be at a meeting at 9am the next day. I was driving 70mph on hwy 17 near Beaufort ~ 1:ooam(a 4 lane road). I was pulled over by a
Beaufort, SC cop. The speed limit is 55mph. There are long spances where there is no sign of speed limit, also I can not imagine having a 4 lane road with a 55 mph limit.

This is a 4 lane US highway. It is mixed residential and business. The speed limit is 35 mph. It is way to low for this wide open 4 lane highway. It can safely be traveled at 50 mph with adequate sight/reaction time. It is patrolled constantly by marked and semi-marked slick top cars of the BPD. The SC Highway Patrol and Beaufort County Sheriff’s Dept even cruise into Beaufort just to up their ticket counts on this road. The police will hide in parking lots just off the road as well as in a roadside park just past a blind curve. By the time you see them it is too late. I have a friend on the force and he laughs about how much money the city pockets off this road. He says it pays for all of the new cars the BPD buys each year.
