Columbia, South Carolina Speed Traps
I-77 near exit 2
Police on motorcycles, in groups of 4 to 5. Wolf pack style using laser and radar guns. Speed limit 65.
Lost Creek Drive off Broad River Rd
On Lost Creek Drive coming from Broad River Rd the speed limit is 45 until you hit a small residential area where it drops to 30. I have seen City of Columbia police hiding in several places in this area. As soon as you are leaving the residential area there is a sharp curve to the left. The speed limit then goes up to 35. But the cops like to sit right at that curve and catch you in the 30mph area. I was recently pulled over for going 42 in what I thought was the 35 zone. He dropped the ticket to 39 in a 30 but also gave me warnings about crossing the center line and because my registration sticker was missing. Watch it in this area!!
Colonial Life bridge at I-126 East bound
Columbia Police Department, about once a month, will set two or three uniforms (policemen) atop the Colonial Life Bridge and "clock" traffic coming into Downtown Columbia on I-126 (East Bound). The on ramp from the bridge is located on the other side of the curve making it impossible to see the line of patrol units waiting on the ramp. Once you see the patrol units, its too late becuase you have been spotted from the uniforms on top the bridge.
I 26 west bound
Police have set up radar just passed the 119 intersection of I77 enters I 26 west bound.
North Two Notch Road past Beltline Blvd.
Columbia PD are sitting right beyond the intersection of this traffic light taking on red light violations and speeders around 4-5PM daily as Northeast folks are going home for the day. Speed limit is 35mph while everyone hits 40-50mph daily. I do it at times too. If that light is yellow, just stop at the light.
