Columbia, South Carolina Speed Traps
Interstate 126 near Interstate 26
Highway patrol sits on right shoulder of eight lane freeway right before the interchange with I-26. Because of slight curve and traffic, patrol car is hidden until too late. Speed limit is 60
Interstate 77 near Mile Marker 17
State Troopers stay under the over pass and hide in bushes around the over passes
From Greystone Boulevard exit to Downtown
Unmarked cars at the Greystone exit cameras on top of the light poles lining the interstate going into downtown. Twice as bad coming from downtown going towards Dutch Square Mall.
Harbison Boulevard
Anything over the speed limit from the interstate to Irmo High school has a high probability of being pulled.
Behind Columbiana Center
Turning off of Lake Murry Blv. to go to the back of Columbiana Center there is a 30 MPH sign as soon as you turn. This sign is mounted very high and is hard to see. As you progress toward the mall there are no more signs. It is approximatly a half mile to the Columbia city limit sign, the speed limit sign (30 MPH) is about 75 yards past this sign, then it goes to 35 MPH. I was stopped and given a ticket for doing 40. I was told there were several signs on the road. This is not true, and by the time I went back to check, the officer had another car stopped in the same place he stopped me. SPEED TRAP!
