Near intersection of US 321 & County 119

Driving north on US 321, an empty, lightly driven pre-interstate road from the 1950s/60s, the speed limit is normally 55. I take this road instead of using I-95/I-26 to Columbia because it is an EMPTY road, a leisurely drive and I am retired, not in a big hurry. Have used it a dozen times. But I notice that speed limits drop fast from 55 to 30 in several places, including Garnett, a non-existent town between Robertville and Scotia. These places are called towns but Garnett looks like what was a town closed up and moved away 30 to 40 years ago. Not even a blinking traffic light or an intersection anymore. But the police are still catching speeders. I was ticketed for the horrendous speed of 39mph in their 30mph zone. No other cars in sight. No buildings. Just a curve in the road, a cop and a radar gun. Just my opinion – I realize these dying towns need revenue but speed traps only result in drivers deciding never to take these roads again, thus accelerating the decline of the towns.
