Nature of trap is to catch motorists coming into town during transition from a 45-mph zone to a 30-mph zone. I got ticket, and immediately after, the officer pulled another motorist (before I had even left the scene).

Recently a friend of mine got nabbed by radar within a few feet of a speed limit change from 45 to 55 MPH. He was in clear view of the sign and was doing around 57. The officer supposedly clocked him using radar at a speed of 59 MPH. The officer pulled my friend over and told him he was speeding, got my friend’s drivers liscense and told him that he would save him some money by writing a ticket for "Careless Driving" instead of speeding. As you all know, these tickets carry a larger fine and add more points to you liscense and thus, increase your insurance. When my friend went to court, the judge was suprised to find over 12 people that were faced with similar tickets. She dismissed them all and questioned the officers. This is nothing short of racketeering! Had the officer not been so blinded by dollar signs and in such a hurry to meet "his quota" he would have noticed that my friend’s tag has been expired for over a year!

Hampton has a new town policeman that is trying to earn his stripes. He is busting anyone that is over the 30mph speed limit through the main part of town. Be careful to watch for the signs because they are hard to see.
