Hwy 9 between Colonial Charters and Hwy 17

Longs, South CarolinaNov 11, 20140 Comments

Hwy 9 (between Colonial Charters and Hwy 17) is a 4 lane super highway with a posted speed limit of 45 mph and even drops to 40 mph in front of Seacoast Medial Center. Everything about this road tells the motorist … “It’s OK to go 55 mph” but the speed limit says 45 mph. This area is crawling with Horry County Police, S.C. State Troopers, and an “unmarked” Black Dodge Charger who write about 6 speeding tickets per day yearround. And since the speed limit is set so low they have an easy time catching lawbiding citizens who are just trying to get to and from work. This speed trap is a bid money maker for Horry County ! And even though the police say they are interested in public safety … all they care about is “The Money”. Write to the Governor and say you want the speed limit increased from 45 mph to 55 mph A.S.A.P. !!!

Black Bear Golf Club Rani’s Convenience Mart highway 9

Speed limit goes from 60mph to 45 as you round the turn to bear down on the golf club and convenience store. It’s a brand new change, and only has one warning of a speed limit change. Don’t have the ticket in front of me but officer sits in the grass right at the 45mph sign. The new 45mph zone lasts >0.4 miles. He pulled me over and clocked me at 62. I had hit the brake as soon as I saw the speed limit sign and let my car decelerate. 62 was the fastest I was going. The 45mph zone creeps up on you and you don’t see it until the last second. Of course the officer says, “What are you in a hurry for?” more than once. Complete bull. Just trying to fill his quota as this happened at the end of the month. I’ve driven this drive to the beach for years and have never seen this 45mph zone.

Going toward beach, about halfway between 2 lane at Green Sea and 57 intersection. Round blind curve, cop on left. Have seen it dozens of times as I travel weekly.

Charter Drive and Seaford Drive

Longs, South CarolinaJan 05, 20111 Comments

Officer backs his car up a private driveway on Charter Drive facing Seaford drive to ticket people for rolling stops at the stop sign. If riding a motorcycle make sure you put your foot down as he will ticket you if you don’t.

Shellbank Drive and Seaford Drive

Officer parks his car on Shellbank Drive a distance down from Seaford Drive (near the mailboxes) to watch the stop sign on the corner of Seaford Drive. He issues tickets for rolling stops and speeding. If riding a motorcycle make sure you put you foot down as he will ticket you for failing to stop.
