Deadwood, South Dakota Speed Traps

As you leave from Deadwood (East) you come up a hill that tee’s. At the tee you can go toward Spearfish or through Boulder Canyon to Sturgis. Going through boulder canyon you continue up the hill at 35mph…..at the top of the hill the speed limit changes to 55. A deputy likes to sit on the other side of the hill and clock you right before the sign.

I’m not sure exactly where this was, but i think it was on I-90 at the Deadwood/Lead exit. A police car sits on the overpass and radars everyone. He has very easy access to get on I-90 and chase people, since he sits right next to an onramp.

A 10 mile stretch of 4-lane highway from I-90 to Deadwood that is crawling with statetroopers and Lawrence County deputies. Once the sun goes down, obey the 55-65 mph speed limit. Hiding places vary with the Preacher Smith Monument parking lot just up the hill from Deadwood as the most likely cop hiding place. 7% grade also makes it tough keeping the speed down going north out of the Black Hills.
