Sioux Falls, South Dakota Speed Traps
Cliff Avenue near Tut Hill
I’ve seen it a lot since moving south of town to Harrisburg. Cops sit on the side streets and down by the gas station. Your car may be going 30mph at the top of the hill but can be going 40+ if you don’t use your brakes. I’ve seen motorcycle cops and regular cars as well.
West 12th Street near Lyons Boulevard
This is usually a team effort with several motorcycle cops and two or three patrol cars. One patrol car will sit in the parking lot just east of Taco Bell (about half-way between the river and Lyons Blvd.) running the radar gun and will radio information to the others that will chase down the speeders. Since 12th Street in this area has a raised section in the middle, they only go after the westbound traffic.
I’ve seen this trap in action while having lunch at Taco Bell, and it’s quite a revenue generator for these guys. It’s not uncommon for them to have six or seven cars pulled over at one time. Beware.
41st Street near Barnes and Noble
Mortocycle Cop sits in the parking lot of Walgreens. 4 more cops are in either direction (north/south on louise & east/west on 41st)
41st Street near Tea/Ellis Road
As you’re heading west on 41st out of town, past Roosevelt high school, a cop will sometimes sit behind the lighted sign in front of The Christmas Store/Greenhouse. Usually after 8pm. Posted speed is 35, but should be at least 55 because there’s very little traffic in that area. The cop disagrees with me however.
West 10th street between Praire and Walts ( Its on the
They set up on Walts just behind a house and sign. Very hard to see them.
