125th-135th Street and Riverside Drive

Manhattan, New YorkApr 01, 20010 Comments

Around 126th Street, Riverside drive opens up from a 2 lane road to a 4-6 lane road (5th and 6th ‘lanes’ are for street parking, but lane on the south side of travel is clear on weekends). There are also no cross streets on this section of Riverside. Both factors can give drivers the impression that they are on a now faster road or highway. NYPD Radar squad positions an unmarked police car on the northbound parking side (~ 130-132nd Street). There is an additional marked car past the end of this strip, where Riverside curves and narrows back into 2 lanes. Upon a radar tag, the unmarked car radios ahead to the marked car, and both pull you over. In traffic court, the radar officers knows the drill, state that they calibrate their equipment every day and check the speed limit signs for graffiti or vegetation that would block them. Posted speed for this area is 30MPH.
