178th Street, between 35th Ave NE and 36th Ave NE

This is a school zone at the bottom of a very steep hill – 24th Avenue becomes 178th Street as you go east down the hill. It’s monitored by cameras, which will take a picture of your license plate and send you a ticket by mail if you break the speed limit of 20 MPH during school hours, and 25 MPH outside of school hours.

Comments:
To be more specific.. two school zones - speed CAMERAS. No mercy here. Granted here in Washington State a ticket from a camera does not go on your driving record. (Did you know that?) Nevertheless it hits the pocketbook. (Don't remember how much $124.00?) As stated 178th St where it passes by Brookside Elementary, and the other is 35th Ave NE between NE 187th and Ballinger Way. The second one i am adding is not in front of a school but is a main crosswalk to Lake Forest Park Elementary on an adjacent street. They ARE as the original poster stated 25 MPH and 20 MPH Children present and they are not kidding 1 mile an hour over and you pay the piper. However, I must say, despite how anyone familiar with these slows way down, the cameras are at least punctual at these speeds where the live police tend to write tickets for underspeeds as "too fast for conditions".

I received a notice for $124.00 dated 9-28-2012 but issued n 10-5-2012 and they give you only till 10-23-2012 to make pament. I was not the Operator of this vehicle that is in my name. But I'm responsible forpayment. It goes on my record. I was miles away form this school zone at college. I was not driving nor can I be in tow places at once. The amber lights where not in flashing mode and the signs that have them or 250 feet away from the cross walk not in the school zone. Threy must move the signage to correct the issue with te flashing signs. But if they are not in operation how do you know if the zone is ineffect. They say school is until 14:30 Hrs but no children are at the school at that time. There is no after school activities that would have any children there at that time. The City must abey the law as well and the are not if hey have the signs set back so far away from the cross walk at the end of the school zone. No children where pressentand no crossing guards on duty so if they do not have the flashing lights activated and no children or guards pressent what infraction was committed??????

One of the most blatant cash cow revenue streams for the corrupt and racist city of Lake Forest Park WA! They put a 20mph speed camera in a school zone at the bottom of a hill! You literally have to ride the brakes to keep it under 20 through this zone. Almost never see any kids present, especially these last few years with the pandemic. It's simply about $$ for the city and it's wrong. :(
