295 Parkway near State Route 198

Maryland City, MarylandJul 17, 20060 Comments

This trap is located on 295 "Baltimore Washington Parkway" just South of the 198 exchange. This falls within the city limits of Maryland City in its Anne Arundel country side. A Google Map of the site is: http://tinyurl.com/lxdel

The trap consists of a service road cut through the dense tree line separating the North and South bound lanes of 295. There is *no* visibility of trooper vehiles parked on the service road until you are directly adjacent to the trap.

During heavy morning and afternoon traffic, it is rare to be able to muster the speed limit (55) in front of this trap. However, in off hours, the thin traffic along this isolated corridor with high visibility (on the road and shoulders) flows safely at approximately 70-80mph. The trap allows for an officer in waiting easy pickings of any passer not aware of its location.

Typical behavior of locals will be decelleration a short distance before the trap. The observant motorist will also notice the all too obvious tell tale sign of a present officer as traffic ahead of them heavily brakes upon passing a vehicle in the trap. The braking is far too late to "save" themselves; however it is a clear warning to those upwards of 1/4 mile back with clear visiblity of this behavior but no visibility into the trap.

Rarely if ever is there more than one vehicle stationed at this trap – just don’t be the lead speedster or stick out from the crowd and you’ll pass through this area fine.
