599 Bypass near State Route 284
Traffic enforcement officers (both Santa Fe County Sheriff Deputies as well as New Mexico State Police) frequently monitor the intersection of the #599 ByPass and Airport Road. The reason is that, no matter what direction a motorist is heading on 599, there are several speed limit changes within a very short distance — especially a 45mph zone on either side of Airport Road. Miss the 45mph sign, and if you’re southbound on 599, you’re 10 miles over the limit. If you’re northbound, you’re 20 miles over!
