The St Petersburg Police Department runs “school zone operations” in non-compliant (with state or federal standards) speed traps at 40-50 “school zones” in the city. They write 90% of all school zone tickets in the county. They have been advised by a Senator’s office that their school zones are not compliant with state and in some instances federal standards and continue to run “operations” and write tickets which create a large revenue stream for the city.
