Platte Canon has a 45mph speed limit in both directions between Bowles Ave south to Mineral Ave. I believe the town of Columbine obtains most of its enforcement revenue on this street. There will be HIDDEN police cars on both sides of this stretch of Platte Canyon Road at any time during a 24-hour period every day!
There are (3) different 35 mph speed traps in this short stretch of road:
1.) There is a two-block school zone just north of the Coal Mine Road intersection where speed is reduced to 35mph ONLY when the school zone lights are flashing. This makes sense to keep kids safer but the low-level flashing amber lights in either direction can be easily missed.
2.) There is a 1 block section by the Polo Club Road entrance on the east side of Platte Canyon (northbound traffic) that has an advisory 35mph speed limit.
3.) The first block south of Bowles Avenue on Platte Canyon is 35mph (in both directions)
Now you can understand why it is the highest revenue area for the town of Columbine and helps pay for the Columbine Police force for this wealthy subdivision of only 1,500 residents.
My recommendation is to just set your cruise control for 35 mph to avoid these (3) speed traps on Platte Canyon Road.
