Yes one could easily say this location in Bethany is indeed a speed trap. I would also add that the entire city of Bethany is in fact one 6 mile by 6 mile speed trap. How do I know this, simple, I'm a police officer in this exact community. I know what some of you might be thinking now, "Well he's just a disgruntled employee." No on the contrary I'm the opposite of that. I enjoy being a police officer a great deal. It was literally my life dream to serve as a Bethany police officer. However, I'm one of those officers you may have heard of who actually signed up to help people and protect them. Being used by the city as a revenue generator is unacceptable to me and many other officers within my dept. I personally have attempted to warn citizens of the citation quota for many years to no avail. I've resisted the quota the city claims doesn't exist by simply issuing warnings which I will continue to do until I retire or they terminate me which they threaten to do often. Ultimately it's up to the citizens this taxation impacts to become active and contact city council members in outrage. We need numbers here not just a few. The mayor is on board with the citation quota and has even been recorded in open council meetings indicating citations are down and he plans to find out why. We have very few lucrative business establishments in Bethany so the mayor demands more revenue from traffic enforcement which is irrefutably unethical. This is factual not fictional and it will continue until citizens become active and either change their minds by speaking up, or vote them out of office. As for me, I'm completely fed up with it and plan to retire soon. Moral is at an all time low and administration is completely checked out. Their response to officer's concerns is met with distain and utter contempt. Every single time we take these and many other issues to them they respond with insults and mental abuse. This dept. has been a waste of a 20 year career and this only but a small sip of what goes here. I strongly believe in almost 20 years, I've helped no one in that entire time. Being apart of this system weighs heavily on me at times obviously, and often reminds me of what George Orwell once stated: “If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face…forever. The moral to be drawn from this dangerous nightmare situation is a simple one: Don’t let it happen. It depends on you.” Godspeed (no pun intended), Bob
