First of all i hate the cameras my self! Speed traps are you people kidding me.I guess the speed limit signs they have up all over town is there for looks since there so pretty! Yes i live in Mckenzie and yes its just another small town. You are safe up 9 mph above the 40 mph zone. the ones who cant add that is 49mph.Sure at first i believe the speed it would take your picture was just a couple mph above. This being said,if an officer gives you a ticket its around 150 bux and could go on your DMV,the cameras is just 50 and only goes on your credit if you do not pay... you do the math...So if your driving your car from point a to point b which so many have forgot that's what a car is for... meaning put down yor cell phones, pay attention to your driving, which is a good thing, oh and don't speed or stop at the red light you will be fine....you just want to blame someone else for your lack of simple paying attention!!!
I do not like the cameras also, but the fact remains...don't speed! The city has the cameras set, as you said, with a 9 mph forgiveness zone. Some people are just in too much of a rush. Secondly, those drivers who like to push the speed limit may need to check their tire size...yes your tire size. When you buy tires and you do not get the exact size tire required, your speedometer does not show you the actual speed. You could be going over or under the speed limit. If you have a GPS device, you can check your speed on your GPS against your speedometer. This may help you determine your actual speed.
We have two sets of cameras at our two major intersections on HWY 79 and additional speed camera by the Church of Christ where people speed excessively. We have a small police force who needs to concentrate on protecting the community, not writing tickets for driving violations.
This is not a speed trap because it is not set up to catch you unexpectantly. There are plenty of signs and everyone is aware of them. Even before the cameras went up the city made everyone around the county, not just the city, that the cameras were there. If you are a local and get ticketed, it is your own fault. Obey the law!
I think that the fact that as of 5 Jan 13 only 2 people think this is not a speed trap speaks for itself.
^^Perhaps that's because they're all whiners? I'll put it bluntly that McKenzie isn't a speed trap and anybody that argues otherwise is just mad because they got tickets for breaking the law, period -- there's no if, ands, or buts about it. The posted speed limit is 40 MPH down the stretch of HWY 79. There is also at least 2-3 miles (on both North and South entrances of town) that you have before reaching any Redlight/Speed camera so there is sufficient time to slow down before reaching a camera and there are numerous signs indicating the speed -- some of them are quite large too. Also, here's the kicker for all the speedtrappers, I usually drive 45 MPH numerous times a week through the Speed camera and not once have I ever received a camera ticket -- because you won't get a ticket until you hit 50MPH. C'mon, 10 miles over the speed limit folks. If you're going that fast, you're ignorant because you had at least 2-3 miles if not more to slow down.
YES, this is a speed trap..... STAY OUT OF THIS AREA, spend your money somewhere else....
This is definitely a speed trap. Its a false statement that there's plenty of time to slow down. There's a speed limit sign that says 40 mph and then it changes to 35 mph at the church. It says that right on the ticket they mail. I received a ticket for 45 mph in a 35 mph zone. Many of the comments here about it not being a speed trap are false. I won't drop another dime in the town and I tell everyone I know about the trap when I hear they're heading anywhere in TN. The interesting thing is most everyone knows about how bad it is.
