All Areas – Broadway & Residential Streets

Alamo Heights, TexasAug 13, 20101 Comments

Alamo Heights has recently posted 25 mph signs throughout the entire area including Broadway, New Braunfels, and residential streets. The signs read, "25mph unless otherwise posted." The tricky part is that they are almost always immediately followed by a 30mph sign. Where one zone begins and the other ends is obviously vague. I’m not sure if this is the case for Terrell Hills as well, but my mother and I were pulled over on Elizabeth Rd. driving towards Broadway for driving 32mph. The officer was polite, but stated the 25mph signs were up and he gave us a warning. He should have checked the area first, though, because we went back and carefully searched the area for the sign. It had not yet been put up on the street. It was placed the next week.

Comments:
This was in the news recently, wasn't it? They instituted the 25-mph speed limit for "safety purposes" because people were driving too fast through residential streets? Usually, when people drive a certain speed on a certain road, it is because the speed they are driving is appropriate. UP the speed limit, don't decrease it just because a couple of elderly people living on the street have a problem with it. Personally, I think the 30-mph limit was more than fair. 25-mph limit is rather unwise, however.
