Town of Carefree has contract with Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office for police. Carefree is mainly a retirement community with lots of older residents. Vigorous enforcement of low speed limits occurs along Cave Creek Road and along Tom Darlington Road, which are routes through Carefree used by travelers going north to lakes. MCSO cars are white, sometimes unmarked.

Carefree has recently changed the limit from 25 MPH to 30 on Tom Darlington and on Cave Creek Rd. Incidentally the MCSO cruisers are jet black. The white ones are the Scottsdale Police.
