Approxiamtely 3 miles on Route 301

Waldo, FloridaAug 13, 20101 Comments

3miles north before you enter Waldo there is a large billboard warning that Waldo is a speed trap. Heading south the speed limit signs rapidly go from 55mph, to 45mph, and 35mph and the reverse as you leave the main business area. You have to be very careful to anticipate the signs as the police will ticket anyone going even slightly over the limits. I once had my radar detector on and could see no police in sight until I passed an entrance to a field where a cruiser would nver been seen until it was too late. This town is probably the worst speed trap in Florida. I know a number of people that have been given tickets that were only slightly over the limit. Be very careful.

Comments:
There is no "safe place" in Waldo. Drive with extreme vigilance. I've lived in the next town over for decades and gone through Waldo many times. I urge you to stay below the speed limit. Watch for speed changes. Excessive worrying can lead to driving mistakes, so don't worry about the cops. They're there, but generally they don't bite. Think of them as black tip reef sharks or junk yard dogs. Just keep your eyes on the road. I never go over 45 mph on US 301 until I'm 1/4 to 1/2 miles outside of Waldo, even if the posted speed limit is higher. Aside: there's a large flea market in Waldo. Last summer I saw a crime that could have lead to severe injuries being committed at the market. The Waldo police swooped in fast and hard, so they deserve some begrudging respect.
