Armada Ridge Rd. Going into Armada

Armada, MichiganFeb 12, 20101 Comments

Coming into Armada on Armada Ridge, both from the east and west, the speed drops from 55 to 25 with very little warning, unless you’re a local and know to slow down before you see the signs. The east side is by St. Mary’s church where the cops blend in on the side of the road there and when you see them, it’s too late. Sometimes they sit in the church parking lot. On the west side of town the 25mph sign is half hidden with overgrowth. If you don’t know it’s there, it’s easy to miss. Either way — be careful driving through Armada. There are lots of places for speed traps there.

Yep. I was caught in this speed trap on May 9th, 2013. I was driving from Auburn Hills to Richmond and using MapQuest directions to make my way there. I was traveling East on Armada Ridge doing the posted 55mph, when the speed dropped suddenly to 25mph just as you enter Armada Village. As soon as I saw the 25mph sign I started to slow down but a cop was sitting on the left side of the road, sitting back in a driveway, just a few yards after the sign. Way too close to the speed change for drivers to safely slow down to 25. He nailed me and said he clocked me at 39 in a 25. I said, of course I was doing 39 since I had just been doing 55 and was in the process of slowing down to 25 when he clocked me. He just ignored my explanation and said he was ticketing me for 30 in a 25 and that I was lucky he didn't ticket me for my very lightly tinted windows as well and gave me an official warning on the tiocket for them. I'm sending in the ticket admitting guilt with an explanation, hoping to get a break on the points. I asked that the ticket be dismissed but highly doubt that will happen.
