As you drive into Nichols South Carolina on SC route 9

As you drive into Nichols, South Carolina on SC route 9 the speed changes 2 or 3 times in the curve and several signs are there as well to overwhelm you with too much info to read before an unmarked, without lights silver or grey city police car sitting under a shade tree on the left side of the road or in a parking lot pulls you over…

Well I guess I will never drive through Nichols, South Carolina ever again. Sad that a small town is like that. They have hundreds of comments on this site about their speed trap and they must not care, because I got one on my wonderful start to our vacation. Haven't gotten a ticket since I was 18, but now at 35, I am totally upset. Cop was rude, arrogant, and pride of himself. He must have missed the real cop test by a few points. So small town cop, who can't write clear enough to mention his name, I hope you know your hurting your small po dump town more then helping it. Sorry gas station owner. Leave town as soon as you can. By the way, what comes around goes around. Also yes he hid under a tree and on the left side of the road as you come into town.

Nichols SC, Avoid at all costs, unscrupulous, unsafe and a RACKET. If I sound a little upset I am. For three decades I have been very cautious about my speed on the road and thus avoided any such tickets. Upon traveling to MB I took the wrong turn off 95 and that put me on 9 which went through Nichols SC. With a sleeping family there was no rush as getting in at 3:30 or 4am does not really matter. I played the small town game with their speed limits going from 55 - 25mph. With blue lights blazing I pulled over and received my first ticket for 38in a 25 zone. Surprised, startled and upset I headed down the road. Now with a fully awoken family they hit their smartphones and disappointment turned to utter disgust. Nichols SC, where 13 over is the norm. Where out of state plates cost you dearly and vanity even more. Stay clear, avoid their gas stations and their restaurants. Avoid Nichols SC like the plague. Never again.

I am a Citizen of the Town of Nichols located in Nichols, South Carolina. I love reading all these "Speed Trap" comments on here. To debunk the prior statments on here First, the speed limit goes from 55mph to 40 mph then to 35mph to 25mph. No where in the town limits does the speed drop from 55mph to 25mph. I know most of the Officers who work for the town and they all give the "NORM" of 10mph over the speed limit before pulling someone over for "Speeding". The speed limit signs are posted just like they are in every state in the US. Just like the signs are posted in each and every one of these complaints home towns. Everyone can blame the police for doing their jobs but the fact of the matter is that if you are speeding you will receive a ticket for it, just like all the other 49 states. Then i hear about the signs being overwhelming, well slow down where you can read the signs and im sure that not only will you not get lost but you will not receive a speeding ticket either. Oh, and the out of state tag trick! Love that one...I suppose you believe that the Officers can see your tag on your vehicle before you get to them so they know that you are from out of state before you ever pass their location....RIGHT! (With much sarcasm)...So they woke your family up because you were speeding and they had a job to do...well if you had used that smart phone to notify you of the speed limit change perhaps you wouldnt have got stopped in the first place. Also, the po dump town mentioned above wont miss your business much being that you were traveling through town speeding and could have ran over a child that could have accidentally ran out in front of your car, so by all means please take your business else where. Nichols is not a speed trap it is a Town with a very respectful community who appreciates its Police Department and what they do to keep our roads safe. The speed limits are clearly posted as well as the Hwys directions and names. Dont beat the Police Department of its Officers for doing their job and enforcing the laws.

To the citizen of Nichols, sorry but I have lived here for more than 60 years and yes, it is a speed trap. Why do you think the town has shrunk from 700 residents in the 60s to fewer than 400 now? Why do you think there are empty storefronts and why most of the businesses have left town? People now take alternate routes around Nichols. Back in The Day, Robert Garris and a night watchman were all the police the town needed even with almost twice the population. Now the town usually employs 4 cops and buys new pursuit vehicles every few years. Do the math and explain that one

We were going through Nichols around 4:00pm on Saturday. As we were leaving town I see the bluelights. I pull over and am promptly handed a ticket for going 35 in a 25. I never saw the speed drop. This is obviously as speed trap and would recommend anyone to bypass this town. I know they are just trying to make money but 35 in a 25 seemed kind of crazy.
