While there are no schools directly on Bear Lake Road, there are several in the vicinity. As a result, there are four different School Zones within a span of two miles on the road, each with slightly different times of day when they are active. Because of heavy road work and detours, you may enter the road at any point and may not have the opportunity to see the reduced speed signs. A popular spot for motorcycle officers is in a driveway just north of McNeil Road. The regular speed limit is 35 MPH, but whether you saw a sign or not, it may be 20 MPH if you are driving between 2:00 and 4:30 pm. Remember that in School Zones in Florida, you can be ticketed for going even 1 MPH over the posted limit, and the fines can be double the regular rate.
