Blinking light at intersection, small gas staion on corner

Jamestown, South CarolinaApr 01, 20103 Comments

My husband and I had to find an alternate route when traffic was topped on I-95 . We took a two lane and came to an intersection of U.S. 17 Alt & S. Carolina-41. There was a blinking kight and we stopped at the gas station and I took over driving . I came out of gas station and wasn’t even a half mile from intersection when I was pulled over. Officer said I was doing 59mph in 40 mph zone. There was no way I could have been going that fast. Ticket was $185.00. Beware!! They must be sitting at the gas station. I might add that while the officer was writing the ticket, other vehicles were flying past me, but all had SC plates, I ‘m from PA.

Beware of Jamestown SC, I was visiting relatives in GA and then going to Myrtle Beach for a few days, was told to take the Alt route 17 to get there. I was advised by my relatives to be careful and do not speed in SC, so I was being really careful but on this road that's in the middle of no where there are very few speed limit signs, I got to the middle of Jamestown, which isn't really a town, nothing there, made a left hand turn at the intersection and within a half mile I look in my rearview mirror and see the flashing light! Are you kidding me? The officer said I was going 58 in a 40, there's no way I was doing 58, and I even said there are no speed limit signs around here how am I supposed to know how fast I can go. He proceeded to right me a ticket for $185 saying I don't set the fine amount, the state of SC does, then he had the never to warn me about the next town, to watch my speed because that town really monitor for speeders. Thanks alot officer! Definitely a speed trap, I'm sure it's the only way they make money in that town.

I'm from Georgetown, SC and I joined the military and went to Texas. I drove from Texas and took 17-A into Georgetown from Summerville and I made SURE I stayed below 55!! I had 2 cop cars behind me for miles before they passed me, and I had TX license plates. I think when they saw I had a Palmetto tree with the crescent moon sticker on my window, that I had "immunity" or something. They are brutal there! I was told by a former cop that they even gave their own judge a ticket!

I am from Andrews SC which is about 15 mins outside of Jamestown I now live in Charleston and travel threw Jamestown to go visit family all the time. I know both cops in the town and I have even got a ticket here for as long as I can remember it has always been a speed trap!! Speeding tickets are the only income this town gets!
