Bolivar, TN going south on Hwy 18

Bolivar, TennesseeJun 29, 20131 Comments

Speed limit is 30 mph, driving in a line of local traffic at 45 mph. We were pulled over (out of state tag) and told that we were driving 45 in a 30 mph area. The two local cars in front of us were passed up, the car behind was also pass up. Do not know at this time what the cost will be but there is no doubt that today, we were singled out. Talking with some locals at a produce stand confirmed that out of county and out of state vehicles are consistently singled out by the Bolivar PD. This is the 1st time passing through Bolivar, TN. When ask what the cost would be, we were told "I do not know, they will not tell us"

Thank you
Grand Dad

Comments:
Wife call to find out what the cost of ticket was going to be. She was told the ticket had been dismissed (our 1st ticket) but that we had to pay $110.00 court cost!! No record of ticket but we still have to pay court cost? Research 1) no record, find does not have to be sheared with the TN DOT! 2) No record means, the city does not have to report ticket activity to the state of TN DOT. 3) No record means, all funds remain in the City of Bolivar, TN and support the continued practice of singling out of out of state/out of county vehicles to support local government, 4) a review of the city limits show a narrow band down both sides of HWY 18 as you drive south. You think that you are exiting town but in reality you are still driving within the city limits and the speed limit is still 30 miles when you think you have left town!! We had been on a trip to East TN looking for a place to take the Grand Kids White Water rafting. We have now changed our minds and have booked a house on the beach at Gulf Shores, AL. We have decided not to fight this ticket; we paid the $110 court cost and voted with your feet and our dollars, by changing our vacations plans!!! To us, this gives a new meaning to TN department tourisms phrase “Sustainable Green Tourisms”
