I have lived on route 9 Brookline for over 12 years and I know all the speed traps here. You are correct about this spot been a hot speed trap, but not recently, more like since the beginning of time. The cops are pretty much in this place, 850 Boylston Street, every week regularly at any time of the day, but mostly rush hours 7-9am and 4-6pm and also at night any time. I would say that route 9 Brookline from Cypress Street to the Hammond St, Longwood Tennis courts and museum, is a speed trap. Another very hot spot like 850 Boylston is heading west on route 9, it is before Brookline becomes Newton the Brookline police is often hiding at Norfolk Rd or Dunster Rd. Motorists are speeding down route 9 because the road is wide and looks pretty much like a highway (which route is) in this section, the speed limit is 35 or 40. Someone must have mentioned this speed trap in this site, if know I will add it if possible.
