Bremond, Texas

Hadn’t had a ticket in nearly twenty years until I stumbled through Bremond, Texas (just thought I’d take a country route). The place has several speed stepdowns in a very short distance, the lowest being 30MPH. I saw the 30MPH sign and responded accordingly. Within a short distance, I saw a 45MPH sign and started to speed up. About a quarter mile out of town, I saw red-lights in my mirror. The Patrolman claimed I was doing 43 in a 30. I responded that I thought the speed limit was 45. I also noticed the patrol car wasn’t on the main road when I came through, meaning he was hiding off to the side somewhere, waiting. Of course he gave me an information sheet along with the ticket listing the fine and court costs at just under $200.00 (just in case I’d like to avoid a court “headache” and just mail everything in within 15 days). I retraced my route just to be sure I didn’t miss anything, but nope; what I remembered is what it is. I drove the speed limit and still got popped. I think the guy just made it up and garnered another two-hundred bucks for the town’s (population 800) treasury (which also pays his salary). Don’t think I’ll be going back to Bremond ever again and I advise all others to avoid it as well, that is unless you want to make a contribution. Bottom line; don’t go there.

I wrote almost the identical case from my experience 2 years ago when I went through Bremond on this webiste. Not sure what happened to my write up or several other cases for this town that were on this website at one time, I even turned around to be sure I didn't miss something. Had my wife watching my speed as I entered and exited the number of speed limit changes that occur with in a very short stretch. Our car has a large digital speedometer that is easy to read from the passenger seat. I saw the police officer sitting on the opposite side of the road and wasn't even concerned as I felt like I slowed at each change in speed limit and sped up when it increased. I was very surprised when I saw him behind me and even more surprised when he said I was going 46 in the 30. There is no way I was going that fast and my wife who was watching agreed. I agree, avoid this town and if you do have to pass through it, drive 30 all the way through because I think the office clocks you in one of the higher speed areas and says you were doing it in the 30.

I made the first comment on this case and forgot to add something. I'm 51 years old and the only speeding ticket I have every had is the one I received in Bremond 2 or 3 years ago. Just wanted that said so you know I'm not a habitual speeder.
