Bright Star Road near Interstate 20

This is the most peculiar thing I have ever seen happen. This WAS an impressive speed trap, a school zone a mile long that was in force from 7AM to 4PM (all day long). What made it amazing was the 50 yeards in the middle where the school zone ended from both sides. If you had a lapse of attention or didn’t know the area, you’d shoot through a school zone at 45. It was brilliant, a real money maker.

What happened is what’s weird though. Seems parents were complaining because they actually didn’t use the trap very often and vehicles regularly rant the road at 60 while kids were going to school. So the county (Douglas) solved the problem by removing all of the school zone markings and signs from the front of the school. Seems their drug interdiction efforts on I-20 were netting them what they needed and the speed trap wasn’t even being used OR enforced. Even the sheriffs used the convenient throughway at high speeds. So what the hell, so a few kids might get killed, at least they can proudly proclaim victory at keeping some loser from getting high. And stopping losers from getting high is way more important than protecting a school zone. Douglas county government is AMAZING!

Comments:
This was a speed trap. However someone successfully contested the school zone. GA law says a school zone can only be around a public school, not a private school. Speed limit are now 45.
