The City of Sumter Police Dept. has a traffic unit that uses semi-marked Ford Crown Vics (markings on the body, but no lights on the roof; instead they’re in the front and rear windows). The PD never used speed enforcement on this part of the road five years ago, but the city has acquired certain annexed parcels of land and other businesses along Broad Street Ext. (Hwy. 76/378), just west of what used to be the city limits. BEWARE of patrol cruisers sitting in vacant lots next to the road or in car or manufactured housing dealerships next to the road, all along Broad St. Ext. from Wilson Hall Road down to Stamey Livestock Road and further down to Carter Road if heading west, away from Sumter. They do have quotas and are attempting to generate quite a cash flow.
