CA 58 east of Santa Margarita (Carrizo/California Valley)
Highway 58 east of San Juan Creek. Traveling east, as you approach the top of Simmler Grade (just before you enter the Carrizo Plain), the CHP is parked on the shoulder around a curve so you can’t see him until he has the gun on you. This is in a very rural area with no posted speed limit. Historically, there has been little police presence in this area, but the two large solar projects (under construction) funded the CHP to monitor construction truck traffic and they are shaking down the locals for driving over the default speed limit of 55 MPH in an area where people typically drive 65/70 MPH.
