Chase Palm Park, Cabrillo Street

Santa Barbara, CaliforniaApr 14, 20101 Comments

Motorcycle officers often wait hidden with radar in the small parking lot that feeds into Cabrillo at the stop light in front of Chase Palm Park. In this area the speed drops from 40 to 25 when children are present (playground). Motorists not paying adequate attention are highly prone to missing this alert for abrupt decrease in speed, thus bringing about a very pricey ticket. Cops are usually only present here during playground hours, and most noticeably around lunch time. The straight-away stretches located on Cabrillo, particularly the area between the bird refuge and Stearns Wharf, are also places to keep a lookout for officers.

Yep! This happened to me today - over 2 years after your original post. Wish I would've seen it earlier! I saw the motorcycle cop & looked down at my speedometer, which said 32. I thought "No problem, the speed limit is 30". However, 2 seconds later the cop is behind me with his lights on. I had no idea what the reason was, but he said the speed limit changes to 25 by the playground. Wow. Then he ticketed me for 37. Not much to do except pay the ticket & go to traffic school. Fun.
