Coming Down the Mountain on Highway 50 Approaching Meyers, CA

South Lake Tahoe, CaliforniaFeb 19, 20103 Comments

The Highway Patrol sits off the side of the highway waiting for cars coming down the mountain heading towards Meyers, CA. Prior to that point, the speed limit is 55 mph or 60mph and drops down to 40mph rather quickly. You need to pay attention because those signs seem to change abruptly. The Highway Patrol works that area in teams of two or three–day and night. I got a ticket at 10:30 at night with a limited amount of cars on the road.. When I got the red light I saw two other cars already pulled over ahead of me. Expensive tickets!

Comments:
This is 100% true, the officers are also hidden so take great care, especially in the dark. I got trapped by a collection of officer who either tailed me waiting for me to transition into a 30Mph zone so the ticket sticks better, or they were sitting on C-street right before the transition from 40mph to 30mph, it's unclear the officer was wishy washy when I asked him his location. Either way not what I would call protecting the public from harm, it was late and there were no other vehicles on the road. I should also point out that many of the roads in South Lake Tahoe have expired Road Surveys, making Radar evidence inadmissible, so if you get stopped ask Caltrans for the survey of that road, if it's expired then that can be used in your defense. I'm using the law to protect myself against this abuse and I suggest others do the same.

They give out alot of tickets here and justly so. It is mainly to all the city folks who our in a hurry to get to the casinos. They are driving 55 to 60 miles in hour in a 40 mile zone where kids try to cross the hwy and residents trying to pull out on the hwy. No speed trap, just the chp trying to avoid a serious accident from happening. Try to do 40 by the time you reach the 89 turn off when coming down the mountain and you should be Ok. If your the last car following in a bunch doing over the limit there, you'll be pulled over as the cars ahead of you get to keep going on. So basically slow down and let the car in front of you get the ticket.

FIGHT IT if you get a ticket here. Illegal under California speed trap law.
