Contee Road, 8400 block
Speed entrapment area. Marked a school zone even though the school is NOT on Contee Road. Speed camera units are set up in front of the EZ-Storage shooting both directions.

I never have objected to a camera speeding ticket before, but this one is completely ridiculous. It is a four lane highway and the posted speed is 30mph! There is no reason for the speed to be set so low and for there to be a camera there other than to get revenue! No safety issue to require cars to drive that slowly.
I normally support speed cameras in school zones, but this one, or at least half of it, is definitely for revenue. As mentioned above, the school is not on this road, and is not even visible from this road. Some students may have to cross this road (when a crossing guard is present) at the beginning and end of school, but would not be anywhere this area while school is in session. The east bound camera does slow down traffic (24 hours a day) that will eventually come to the area that children may cross to get to their school. The west bound camera covers an area that no children, and rarely any other pedestrians, use. It is beyond the residential area. The closest residential area in that direction which would provide students to that school is well beyond the requirement for bus transportation. If the county was really interested in using resources to protect students, they would install "timed flashing warning lights" in the area that the students would use to cross the road, and move this camera to a more appropriate location. It seems that the county is more interested in collecting ticket money, than in protecting students, otherwise they would slow down traffic by warning them they are approaching a school zone with "timed flashing lights". BTW, I have an older GPS which does not have the most current speed limits. When I pass this area, my GPS tells me that speed limit is higher than the posted sign. I am curious if the speed limit was reduced to increase the number of tickets and increase revenue.
