County Trunk 3005 near Jamaica Beach City Hall
Route 3005 passes through Jamaica Beach, a tiny municipality surrounded by Galveston on the island’s west end. No more than 1/2 mile long, the speed limit drops instantly from 50 to 35, and the Jamaica Beach police park in the city hall parking lot or another small lot nearby 24×7. I’ll bet more than half the municipality’s revenues come from speeding tickets.

The Worst speed trap in the US on Texas 3005 is in the small municipality of Jamaica Beach on Galveston Island. The City of Jamaica Beach over the years has well earned their speed trap reputation. Jamaica Beach should re-think their traffic policy. Most Galveston west end residents and seasonal tourists tend to pass up Jamaica Beach Merchants in favor of Galveston’s merchants as they watch police pulling vehicles over at an astounding rate in front of their eyes on this short 1/2 mile stretch of 3005. The speed limit drops from 50 to 35 almost instantly at Jamaica Beach. This is the lowest limit on Texas 3005. Its desired effect of a revenue gold mine for the city is renowned. But as for public safety for its residents or the unfortunate family that have to drive this small piece of sandy island road most think not.
