Delon Ave & S Dixon Rd

Kokomo, IndianaJul 20, 20092 Comments

Over the last few months the police have been parking on Delon St. tagging motorists traveling north on S. Dixon. The speed limit on S. Dixon is 40 mph, but rapidly changes to 35 mph on the uphill shortly after the light at S. Dixon & W. Markland. Since 99.9% of the motorists traveling north on S. Dixon are traveling 45 mph or greater – due to the fact that it is a four lane road – when the speed limit changes to 35 mph past the light, it then puts the majority of motorists in the magic 10 mph-over-the-speed-limit danger zone which then makes them prime targets for our revenue hungry members of Kokomo’s finest. Originally they were parking on S. Dixon and Crystal Woods St., but have recently moved a block north on S. Dixon and Delon St. in order to hide behind the Wesleyan Church. So if you’re traveling north on S. Dixon in the city of Kokomo, be very, very careful when you head past the intersection of S. Dixon & W. Markland… spread the word!

Whoever voted that this stretch of road is Not a speed trap must have been driving blindfolded at 3:00 a.m. during a blizzard in a horse and buggy on a very lucky day. You can't even drive from Markland to Sycamore on Dixon St. anymore without having eyes growing from the back of your head - the cops are That bad! It's gotten to be such a hassle that sometimes my husband and I even take an alternative route when we're trying to get from pt. A to pt B. I even remember one time they had a cop out in the middle of the road motioning people to pull over, and there were Two parked cop cars on hand for back-up to write all tickets. There's a lot of police presence in this city on this little 2 mile stretch of road!!

If you get pulled over by a Howard County Sheriff's Deputy and you're a military veteran, make sure the officer knows you are a vet. I was once pulled over and the officer said: "I've never gave a ticket to a vet, and I'm not starting now". I was doing over 65 in a 55mph zone.
