E Pine St just east of downtown Deming

The limit on Pine St (also known as Business 10 or US180) through downtown Deming, NM is understandably 35 MPH. However, that reduced speed limit is carried several miles outside of town on the east side, where its 4 lanes, divided by a grass median and no cross traffic. The local cops setup in this section (near the cemetery) and catch folks who either haven’t slowed down yet (westbound), or sped up a bit too soon (eastbound).

Comments:
This speed trap was still active as of 11/06/2015. The officer who stopped me said I was 15 mph over the 35-mph limit, but declined to respond to my question about calibration of his radar. I called around the next day to bring this speed trap to the attention of friends and acquaintances, some of whom were already aware of it and commented that it was occasionally referred to as the "Deming East" or the "Pine Street" trap. A couple of acquaintances remarked that the trap is nothing but a money generator for a dying town and that they no longer visit Deming because of it. For several years my wife and I have stopped in Deming 15-20 times each year for a meal and gas on our trips to and from Arizona and Silver City, but will avoid the town from now on and hopefully get the word out about the trap.
