This is the city of Golden’s little money making machine, the trap is a fake construction site with orange cones, funneling traffic into the left lane. It’s hard to see until you come around the curve. The squad car is hidden on a side road where the issuing officer hits you with a laser gun from 1,000′ feet away, then comes running out from between the cones in the middle of the left lane, waving his arms like a madman to stop you. You have to hit the brakes pretty quick, and if they don’t stop doing it that way, the officer is going to get creamed by someone who’s not paying attention. The Golden City Court is crammed full of people every single day, all issued tickets from this trap, all for doing 65 in a 45, all with fines of $200+ each. Why they make you drive back to Golden from Denver or beyond just to appear personally is beyond me…you don’t have a prayer of contesting it. If you plead ‘no contest’ they bump the charge down from 6 pts. to 3 pts. and charge you with an ‘improper left turn’ instead; but you still have to pay the fine for the speeding charge.
